Can you really have a party on a tram? How it works, step by step
Yes, you can: it is a private hire of a 1930s historic ATM tram, with a driver, a dj, a barman and an event manager on board. It lasts three hours, counted from when the tram leaves the depot, with two fifteen-minute stops; up to 55 people fit on board and it starts at €2,000 for the Classic car, VAT included. From the first email to the party it usually takes twenty days: the time ATM needs to confirm the car.
We have been doing this since 2008, and the question always arrives in the tone of someone who does not quite believe it. Here is how it actually works, step by step.
Six steps, from your first email to the party
- You send us the date and the number of guests. Those two things are enough for a useful answer: everything else is decided later.
- We check the car with ATM. The tram is not ours: every hire goes through ATM, the Milan transport company. We usually come back within a few hours, and meanwhile we hold the date on option for 24 hours, free of charge.
- You lock the date with a €1,000 deposit by bank transfer. From that moment the evening is yours and we take care of the paperwork with ATM.
- You choose food and bar. Five menus from €12 to €60 per person, open bar at €35 or a pay bar. Catering is calculated on a minimum of twenty people.
- We agree on the route and the music. The standard itinerary runs through the city centre; if there is a place that matters to you, we can add it. The playlist you agree with the dj.
- On the night you turn up at the meeting point fifteen minutes early: the tram is already set up, the bar is ready, the music starts when you step on.

Who is on board with you
Four people, included in the price of the car: the ATM driver, the dj with the sound system, the barman making cocktails throughout the ride, and the event manager, the person to ask for anything during the evening. From Menu 4 upwards a chef (€200) and an extra waiter (€200) are added.
The three things that surprise people most
- The tram is in service, it is not a museum piece. It is a real ATM historic car, running on the Milan tracks alongside the other trams.
- There are no toilets on board. That is the real limit of a party on rails: it is solved with the two stops, during which our staff walk guests to the venues nearby.
- The departure point is decided by ATM. Usually it is the depot in piazzale Perrucchetti, sometimes piazza Castello. We confirm it as soon as they tell us: it can change even a few days before.
