How many people fit on a historic tram (and what changes if there are ten of you)

A Discotram historic tram holds up to 55 people and has no minimum number: the price of the car is the same, €2,000 for the Classic and €3,000 for the Luxury, whether you are ten or fifty-five. What really changes is the cost per head — from about €358 per person with ten guests to just over €100 with fifty-five — and the atmosphere: with twenty you sit and talk, with fifty you dance standing up.

What it really costs per head

Same calculation for five different group sizes: Classic car, Menu 4 (cured meats and cheeses sliced on board, €24 per person), chef €200 and extra waiter €200, open bar at €35 per person. One rule to remember: catering is calculated on a minimum of twenty people, even if there are fewer of you on board.

Final prices, VAT included, for private customers. You can see the tipping point straight away: below twenty guests the tram weighs a lot per head, because the car is paid for once and catering starts from twenty anyway. From thirty upwards the cost per person drops below a dinner in a good Milan restaurant — with three hours of music and a ride through the centre on top.

What changes on board, number by number

• From 10 to 20. Everybody sits, the conversation is easy, the tram feels like a private living room. It is the right format for a birthday dinner or an anniversary. The price per head is the highest: it makes sense if what you want is to be few.
• From 20 to 35. Our most requested format. Almost everyone is seated, someone stands by the bar, the music is there but you can still talk.
• From 35 to 55. This is a proper party: standing, dancing, the dj turns it up. It is the format for graduations, eighteenth birthdays and hen parties. The cost per head is the lowest of all.

The 55-people limit is not an estimate of ours: it is the authorised capacity of the historic car and it cannot be exceeded.

Children, older guests, accessibility

Children count as people on board and they love the tram; you do need one adult for every few children, because the vehicle is moving and has steps. For the same reason the historic car is not wheelchair accessible: the entrance has high steps and there is no ramp. We prefer to tell you now rather than at the end.

What is the minimum number of people to hire the tram?

There is none. You can book with ten guests: the price of the car stays €2,000 for the Classic.

What is the maximum capacity?

Fifty-five people. It is the authorised capacity of the historic car and cannot be exceeded.

Are there seats for everybody?

Up to around thirty guests, yes, more or less everyone is seated. Above that some guests stand — which is what happens anyway once the dancing starts.

Do I pay catering for people who do not eat?

Catering is calculated on a minimum of twenty people. Above twenty you pay for the real number of guests.
